BIOGRAPHY
Scott Gladwell (b. 2004, Manassas VA) is known for his work in high fantasy illustration and concept art. His figures and landscapes are rendered in a style of semi-realism with an attention to detail that sets him apart from others in his field. At Charles J. Colgan High School Scott studied in the Center for Fine and Performing Arts program, giving him plentiful opportunities to perform under higher expectations and exhibit his art multiple times in Prince William County, winning an award for his portraiture in 2022. He then transferred to Northern Virginia Community College where he received an AFA in Visual Art and had the opportunity to study under the tutelage of several professors from more prestigious institutions such as MICA. At NOVA he specialized in drawing and photography, and painting, specifically with oil paint. During this time, Scott also completed commissioned works of art such as logo designs, portraits, still life’s, mascots, tattoos, and numerous individual illustrations that left clients not only satisfied but also in want of his services once more. He is currently studying for a BFA at George Mason University with a major in Studio Art and is set to graduate in the Spring of 2026, now specializing in illustration, painting, and photography.

Artist Statement
My fine artwork explores the depth of emotion evoked by the naturalistic detail of a poignant scene, in the same way one might look at a fine photograph. The clarity of the style, rendering all in extremely fine detail, allows the viewer to be immersed in the scene to the point where the piece’s intention becomes obvious. As if you were standing there in the scene yourself, and you are met with the only possible thoughts that one pondering the physical scene could think. Something else that is present in all my art is a relative escape. Providing a piece that one can immerse themselves in and be lost in a different world, if not for a little bit. My fine art does deal with very real things, but when one looks at it I hope that they put themselves into what they are seeing.
My illustrations are fantastical, so it is in their very nature that to appreciate them one must immerse themselves in the realm of their conception. In my personal artwork and writings, I show a lot more of myself. A few themes that are carried across both my stories and illustrations include the corruptive nature of power and how easily it can be abused, themes of enduring hope and platonic love in the face of overwhelming odds, and an appreciation for the simple beauty of the natural world and life itself. These themes are so present in my work because of just how close they are to my heart and how I go about seeing the world. My work intentionally does not follow contemporary art trends, I will not let other people define who I am as an artist. I will take inspiration from great illustrators and concept artists as I pursue my passion in those subjects, which are separate from the world of fine art. But if I am to be forced to produce artwork that draws from the depths of my mind and heart, I will do so by being unabashedly myself.
